Professor Mohamed Fakihi attended a Conference on “Europe and the Arab Spring: What Contribution in the Process of Democratization of the Maghreb?” between the 27 and the 30 March 2012 in Rome, Italy.

In the framework of the opening of the Interdisciplinary Moroccan Center for Strategic and International Studies (CMIESI) on its Euro-Mediterranean environment, Professor Mohamed Fakihi travelled to Rome from the 27th to the 30th March 2012 following an invitation from the European depute Mrs. Debora Serracchiani from the “Progressive Alliance of Social and Democrats” (PASD) in the European Parliament.

The invitation concerned a conference on “Europe and the Arab Spring: What Contribution in the Process of Democratization of the Maghreb?” which was held in the Bibliotheca Angelica of Rome on the 29 March 2012.

President Abdelhak Azzouzi was the honour guest of the Kanou 2012 prize in the presence of his majesty the Sheikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, the vice-prime minister of Bahrain.

President Abdelhak Azzouzi was the honour guest of the Kanou 2012 prize in the presence of his majesty the Sheikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, the vice-prime minister of Bahrain (who chaired the event) and various diplomatic and official figures of the Kingdom of Bahrain. President Abdelhak Azzouzi has congratulated throughout his speech the initiators of this prize, whose stakes evidently surpass the borders of Bahrain. The Kanou prize is an Arab-Muslim prize, whose foremost objectives are to award the best works related to education and thus to sustainable development. Professor Abdelhak Azzouzi has specified that the future of the Arab World today depend on education. He cited several examples from Japan and the United States. He also emphasized the other objectives of the Kanou Prize, which include encouragement of cultural diversity and construction of world peace through awarding works, which go in that direction. His majesty Sheikh Mohammed bin Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa vice prime minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain has awarded on this occasion an honorary trophy to Mr. Abdelhak Azzouzi.

The president of the CMIESI has dedicated nine volumes on the Alliance of Civilisations and Cultural Diversity to the King of Saudi Arabia Abdallah Ben Abdelaziz.

The President of the CMIESI, M. Abdelhak Azzouzi participated to the activities of the National Saudi Festival of Arts and Cultures in its 27th Edition and dedicated to this occasion nine volumes on the Alliance of Civilizations and Cultural Diversity published by the CMIESI to the King of Saudi Arabia, Abdallah Ben Abdelaziz. The festival was the occasion for the president of the CMIESI to gather with an elite of thinkers and decision makers in the framework of external relations of the CMIESI. The president of the CMIESI has met in Paris with the Saudi Arabian cultural delegate M. Abddalah El Khatib. Together, they have discussed different common centres of interests including the future of the Fes Forum.

Eighth Edition of the Fès Forum on the Alliance of Civilizations, Cultural Diversity and the Euro-Mediterranean cooperation

In conformity with its strategic initial choices, the Moroccan Interdisciplinary Center for Strategic and International Studies is pursuing its concern with issues affecting the future of humanity. To this effect, universal dialogue constitutes the main concern of all participants in the Fez Forum, with the aim of achieving what could be called a universal humanism. Man, civilization and culture should be able to overcome the temptation of ignorance, and denial of responsibility and self-confinement. Universal humanism is a way of hope and willing that men should behave in a brotherly way toward each other, that civilizations open up on the future, beyond  failures, wanes, perils and potential catastrophes.

Conference on the Arab World: Challenges and Contemporary Transformation at the headquarters of "Emirati Center for Strategic Studies and Research" in Abu Dhabi

The President of the Moroccan Interdisciplinary Center for Strategic and International Studies gave a conference under the theme of "The Arab Word: Contemporary Challenges and Transformation" at the headquarters of the Emirati Center of Strategic Studies and Research. The President indicated that: Several attempts were made in the 20th century to achieve Arab unity, including: the establishment of the League Arab States; the creation of various bilateral and multi-lateral agreements and partnerships such as the Arab Free Trade Zone; and the formation of regional grouping including the Arab Maghreb Union. However, most aspects of the system of Arab joint action have been a total failure, which raises the following questions: does the Arab world have the necessary dynamics for establishing a coherent regional union and joint economic development similar to that of the European Union, for example? If so, why has the Arab world failed so far in achieving unity and joint development? Is authoritarianism in the Arab political arena to be blamed for the miserable status of Arab joint action? Is the Arab World still in need of a revolution in the fields of education, culture and economy, the indispensable elements for building the state, and the strength of the Arab system in general?

The President of the CMIESI gave a conference on the political changes in the Arab countries during the sixth meeting of the Alitihad newspaper in Abu Dhabi on the 20th October 2011 with the participation of eminent experts of the Arab World. The President of the CMIESI has specified during the conference the virtues of the political pact in the changes and proceeded to the comparative study between the three principal countries of the Maghreb including Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. He also pointed out the reasons of Moroccan exceptionalism in the Arab context.

Professor Abdelhak Azzouzi went to Marseilles on the 14-15 October 2011 to participate to the seventh economic meeting for the Mediterranean organized by the circle of economist of the Mediterranean Institute/FEMISE in cooperation with the Union Secretariat for the Mediterranean and the UPM French inter-ministerial mission under the theme to assure the economic transition in the Mediterranean in the framework of the economic week of the Mediterranean. The intervention of the President was oriented towards the session of answering the aspirations of the young and offering employment. This session has tried to understand the aspirations of the young and the role played in these aspirations by free speech, participation in processes of decision making and employment of the young.

On Saturday October 30 in Rabat, Professor Abdelhak Azzouzi, received the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly Award during the 5th Plenary Session of the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly, convened in the Moroccan Parliament (October 28-30, 2010). The event was hosted by the Moroccan Parliament. The award, announced  during the proceedings of the third permanent commission of APM which convened last June (24-26) in Belgrade, was bestowed upon Professor Abdelhak Azzouzi, President of the Moroccan Interdisciplinary Center for Strategic and International Studies, for his commitment to the promotion of culture, education and dialogue among peoples of the Mediterranean.

The position of Lebanon has always been a preponderant one within the Middle East, because of its human wealth and the privileged links it has always had with the West. A Micro-state of 10,452 square kilometres, a refuge mountain, a “message country” (Jean Paul II), it has for a long time been the only parliamentary  democracy in the Arab Orient. Lebanon has known an undisputed prosperity thanks to its dynamism and the genius of its people. In this respect, a local saying reminds us that “When a Lebanese falls into the sea, he comes out with a fish in his mouth”. Its capital, which had been a symbol of Paradise in the East until 1975, is henceforth mentioned to describe the war hell.
